Midnight at the Cemetery

Produced by Blue Roo Theatre Company. This spine-tingling production follows vlogger Nick as he investigates mysterious happenings at Hauntmoor Cemetery. When was the last time you visited a cemetery at midnight? Are you brave enough? Join the Blue Roo ensemble for a fun-filled adventure with quirky gadgets and endless cups of tea!

My Notes:

Blue Roo provides a life changing opportunity for people with disability to shine on stage, to grow their confidence, teamwork and social skill sin a safe and encouraging environment. And they have a lot of fun at the same time! Our ensemble works as a team to bring an original show to life, developing performance skills along the way.

This play has been a lot of fun to bring to life, from the spooky setting of the cemetery to the eccentric characters that inhabit it. Collaboration and inclusion has been at the forefront of our rehearsals, ensuring that everyone’s ideas are heard and incorporated into the show, leading to a final production that is truly reflective of the ensemble’s creativity.

Midnight at the Cemetery explores the age-old adage, “If something seems too good to be true...” and affirms that it’s okay to question or challenge something that doesn’t seem right. Many characters in this play are clever, outspoken and aren’t easily fooled by unbelievable promises. Now more than ever, these are important qualities to have in everyday life.

Reviews:

"If you missed this short world premiere run of Midnight at the Cemetery, be reassured that the clever gravedigger finds out what is really going on and reminds us that if something is too good to be true, it is ok to be sceptical and ask questions. Thanks to Arts Queensland Funding, and the generous support of sponsors, supporters, and Friends of Blue Roo, Midnight at the Cemetery is a show with heart and high professional standards. Blue Roo’s talented Artistic Director, Lachlan Driscoll, led the way as Midnight at the Cemetery Co-Director and Mentor, working with Oriel Halpin and James Loakes." "Blue Roo’s work highlights the importance of access and diversity. I loved the use of open captioning projections, which included all of the narrators’ lines. And do make sure you keep half an eye on the Auslan interpreter; on the Friday night I was particularly entertained by the Auslan for theremin music. The Blue Roo cast, creatives and wider team are doing a great job to encourage audiences and participants to value diverse voices and lived experiences. Keep an eye out for future Blue Roo shows, and always make sure you stay for the enjoyable post-show Q&A sessions." Catherine Lawrence, Creative Futures
