I will support you and your script!

Got ideas for your next script or performance work? Need help tightening or reining in? Or need some critical feedback? I can help.

I am a friendly and encouraging force in your creative process! I am a freelance theatre-maker, with experience in writing, devising, directing, acting, producing, and creative development. I understand the stages that a script goes through, from ideation, to drafting, to testing it out with a team of people. I have tertiary qualifications in theatre and I’ve taken courses with some of the best dramaturgs and creative minds in Australia and globally. As a dramaturg, I work with writers in the creation of new plays (text based theatre). I also offer production dramaturgy and have worked on several independent shows. I love reading, thinking, researching and feeling, which I believe are essential to considered and useful dramaturgy.

Writers. Devising teams. Lead Artists. Anybody who needs help with their ideas/foundations/concept/material.

In a nutshell, we’re talking about all the elements in your script that work together. This includes structure, narrative, themes, ideas, devices, motifs and character. It can also include questions like, What is working? What is missing? What doesn’t need to be here? What makes this work relevant today? How can your ideas engage audiences in the most effective way?

You need someone you can trust and feel comfortable with. I know it can be scary letting a stranger look at your work. I want you to know that I will be your biggest champion because the world needs what you have to offer! I am encouraging, friendly and supportive, offering a mix of positive and constructive feedback, plus helpful ideas that are aligned with your intention, not what I think your work should be. I come from a place of grounding myself in your intention, so that the work I do is always specific to your creative vision

With your permission, I will view your materials, be it a half or fully finished script, notes, an outline or plan, a mood board, scribbles on the back of a napkin, whatever it may be. Then we will chat so I can get an understanding of your intention and process. Then I will give you:

  • Thoughts, feelings and impressions about the work

  • Feedback on what’s working

  • Feedback on what needs tweaking

  • Helpful questions, ideas and provocations to guide your next steps

  • Exercises and activities to invite possibility and prompt creativity

  • Basic research and contextualising of the work (eg. How your ideas may resonate with particular audiences or be relevant today)

  • A written summary of everything we discuss

I always prefer meeting in person, but video call is fine too. Either way, let’s have tea together! I am available in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.

How much? It depends, but at a minimum, we're looking at $90.

The works. The egg, pineapple, cheese, bacon. Let me help you discover the potential of your ideas. This is a fairly open ended and flexible service to what you need. If you are looking for lots of support, such as a more “hands on” approach or deeper creative work, then it may include the following:

  • Ideating, planning and brainstorming

  • Regular meetings and check ins over a longer period of time

  • Feedback on multiple drafts or versions of your work

  • Full research and contextualising to support your process and creative ideas

  • Advising on the creative process, such as casting, venues, performance requirements, rationale

  • Attending and/or helping to organise meetings, rehearsals, workshops, creative developments for the work

  • Being part of every stage, from our first meeting to wrapping up the show

How much? As you can see above, it’s pretty broad what I can do. Let’s talk something fair and reasonable within your budget.
